Our Team
The team was led by Project Director, Professor Lisa Blackman, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in August 2021. Like the storytellers featured in the project, living with and beyond cancer as a queer person presents lots of challenges. These experiences informed the co-production of the stories, the scope of the project, and the research/interviewing/editing of the stories. Lisa is a Professor of Media and Communications at Goldsmiths who researches at the intersections of body studies, media and cultural theory, and critical psychology. The co-production of the stories was also realised in collaboration with a team led by the Hong Kong queer filmmaker Dr Kit Hung, a graduate with a practice-based PhD from Goldsmiths. The digital storytelling workshop was delivered by Ceiren Bell, an animator and educator at Goldsmiths, and Steve Wybourne, a mental health educator, currently completing a PhD in digital storytelling at Kingston University. The project was funded by Goldsmiths, University of London Strategic Research Fund in collaboration with the LGBTQIA+ UK cancer charity OUTpatients.org.uk Thank you to all the team at OUTpatients with a special thank you to the project liaison lead from OUTpatients, Hal Milne, and to Stewart O’ Callaghan to being open to collaboration and supporting the project.
Thank you to all the storytellers who contributed to the project and to those who participated in our digital storytelling workshop. Thank you to Jacob Love for his support. Thanks to all those who have consented for images to be used in the films and a special thank you to the queer black playwright Dr Mojisola Adebayo for voicing BLCKGEEZER's text.
